Letters first
Gothic and bold letter styles pass the in-game filter more often than long strings of symbols.
Tag, then name
A short clan tag in brackets in front of your name is the classic PUBG look and costs few characters.
Rename costs
Changing the name usually needs a Rename Card, so test the style in a notes app before you spend one.
A PUBG Name Is Seen More Than You Think
Think about where your PUBG name actually appears. Over the lobby, on the kill feed, in the squad list, in the death recap that the player who eliminated you sees. For a few seconds every match, your nickname is the only thing a stranger knows about you. That's why a name that looks careless tends to get written off, and one that looks deliberate gets a bit of respect.
This page converts the nickname you type into stylish versions built from regular Unicode characters. Gothic fraktur, bold sans, small capitals, clan brackets, crowns, skulls and a handful of symbol joiners. Nothing here is an image, which is why you can paste it straight into the name field.
What PUBG Mobile Usually Accepts
The game runs your nickname through its own filter, and that filter has changed between updates and regions. In general, plain letters and numbers always pass. Many decorative Unicode letters, especially the bold and fraktur alphabets, pass too. Combining marks (the zalgo kind) and exotic symbols are the ones most likely to be refused or silently cleaned.
Treat that as a rule of thumb rather than a promise. If a style is rejected, you've lost nothing: copy the next card. If it is accepted but looks like empty squares on a friend's phone, that style depends on a font their device doesn't have, and a simpler one is the safer pick.
Changing Your Name Step by Step
- Type your current nickname in the box above, or the name you'd like to move to.
- Pick a card and tap it. The styled name is copied to your clipboard.
- Open PUBG Mobile, go to your profile and find the option to change your nickname.
- Paste the name. If the game shows an error or strips characters, go back and try a plainer card.
- Confirm with a Rename Card. If you don't have one, you'll need to earn or buy it, so be sure before you tap confirm.
One practical tip: paste into a notes app first and look at the result. What you see there is roughly what teammates will see.
Clan Tags and the Bracket Look
The most recognisable PUBG name layout is a clan tag followed by the player name, something like ⟦ TAG ⟧ Name or 【TAG】Name. The brackets are what make it read as a tag instead of part of the name. Cards such as Lenticular, Angle Brackets and Boxed Dash on this page do that formatting for you.
Keep the tag to two to four letters. Anything longer pushes your actual name off the visible part of the screen in the kill feed. If your squad shares a tag, agree on the bracket style first, since mismatched brackets look sloppy in a four-person lobby.
Style Ideas That Hold Up
- Gothic: Old English and Opium Bold Fraktur. Heavy and serious, and very common, so pair it with an uncommon word.
- Minimal: Bold Sans or Small Caps. Readable at kill-feed size, and it looks confident rather than loud.
- Dark: Skull, Blood Drop and Chains. Fun, but use one symbol, not five.
- Royal: crowns and gems, for players who like to announce themselves.
If you want more than a nickname, the same styles work for a bio or a Discord tag. The longer decorated versions are better kept for those, using the guild nickname page or the Y2K / Cyber styles.
Mistakes That Make a PUBG Name Look Weak
Too many symbols is the big one. A name with a skull, a sword, a crown and two sets of brackets is hard to read and impossible to say out loud on voice chat. People call out names in the middle of a firefight. Make yours easy to say.
The other is copying a streamer or pro exactly. It looks like impersonation, it can get reported, and it gives you no identity of your own. Take a word you like, add a short tag or one symbol, and you already have something nobody else is using.
If you play BGMI as well, the BGMI name style page covers the India-specific details, and the Free Fire name page is the one for Garena's game.
Reading the Lobby Before You Pick
Spend a few matches reading the lobby. Notice which names you remember afterwards. They are almost never the longest ones. They are usually a single clear word with one small mark of style, and that is the pattern worth copying.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which special characters work in PUBG Mobile names?
+
Letters and numbers always work, and many decorative letter styles such as bold and fraktur do too. Rare symbols and combining marks are more likely to be rejected, and the allowed set can change with updates. Test a style before paying for a rename.
How do I get a stylish name in PUBG Mobile?
+
Type your nickname on this page, tap a card to copy it, then paste it into the nickname field in the game. Renaming normally uses a Rename Card.
Why does my PUBG name show boxes?
+
The device doesn't have a font containing that character. Pick a simpler style, since bold and plain letters show up on almost every phone.
Can I use the same name in PUBG and BGMI?
+
Often yes, but the two games have separate accounts and their own character filters, so check each game separately.
Will a stylish name get my PUBG account banned?
+
No. It's ordinary text, not a modification. The only consequence of a bad character is the game refusing the name.
