Halloween Name Ideas: Spooky Fonts and Emoji for Your Profile
By Stylish Name Team · Updated · 5 min read
Halloween is the one time of year when changing your profile name is not just allowed but expected. A week of spooky names on Discord, TikTok and Instagram is normal, and a good one gets compliments. The trick is to make it fun without making it unreadable, and to remember you'll want to change it back.
How to think about a seasonal name
A seasonal name works differently from your permanent one.
- It's temporary, so you can be bolder.
- It should still be recognisable, so friends know it's you.
- It should be easy to undo, which means keeping your original in a note.
The easiest approach is to keep your base name and add a Halloween layer: a symbol, a style, a spooky suffix. That way, regulars recognise you straight away.
Spooky styles
Fraktur. Gothic blackletter is the classic haunted-house font: 𝕸𝖎𝖉𝖓𝖎𝖌𝖍𝖙. Common, but it works because it looks old and ominous.
Zalgo and glitch. The creepy-crawly stacked-mark look. Use the mild version. N̶i̶g̶h̶t̶m̶a̶r̶e̶ with a strikethrough reads as "crossed out" and works for jokes. For how it works and its limits, see what zalgo text is. The Glitch / Cursed page generates all of it.
Monospace. 𝚎𝚛𝚛𝚘𝚛_666 suits "haunted computer" themes.
Small caps. ᴛʜᴇ ʜᴀᴜɴᴛɪɴɢ ʜᴏᴜʀ is quieter and a bit more elegant.
Bold. When you want the symbols to carry the spooky and the letters to stay clear.
Symbols and emoji
- 🎃 Pumpkin, the obvious one
- 👻 Ghost, friendly and a bit silly
- 🦇 Bat, classic and compact
- 🕷 🕸 Spider and web
- 💀 Skull, which now also reads as "I'm dead (laughing)"
- 🕯 Candle, atmospheric
- 🌕 Full moon
- ⚰ Coffin, rarer and darker
- † ✞ Crosses, gothic text symbols that work in games more often than emoji
Remember that emoji don't work everywhere. The cool symbols page has text symbols for places that filter emoji, and emoji combos for names goes through the pairings.

For other bio formats, aesthetic Instagram bio ideas has patterns you can reuse.
Gaming at Halloween
Many games run events that make themed names popular. Keep in mind the limits: Free Fire, PUBG and BGMI filter characters, and emoji are the likeliest to vanish. Use a text symbol or a bracket tag instead. You can try styles on the Free Fire Name and PUBG Name Style pages. Name changes in those games can cost a card, so a seasonal name may not be worth it.
On Roblox, display names allow only plain characters (see Roblox display name ideas); a spooky word with creative capitalisation does the job.
How to switch back
Don't rely on remembering your original style.
- Before you change anything, paste your current name into a note.
- Mark when you changed it and which platforms.
- Check any change limits: Instagram restricts name changes (about two in 14 days at the time of writing), and TikTok limits nickname changes to one a week. A pair of changes (to Halloween and back) fits within these, but plan so you aren't locked into a spooky name in November.
- Set a reminder for 1 November.
Mistakes that spoil the effect
- Unreadable text. Extreme zalgo on a nickname breaks chat layouts and may be banned in servers.
- Rules. Many communities restrict disruptive names. See Discord nickname fonts.
- Offensive themes. Jokes about real tragedies and crimes aren't spooky; they're a quick route to a report.
- Too many emoji. Three is a lot.
- Forgetting your audience. A business account that turns gothic for a week may confuse customers. A single pumpkin is enough.
Ideas for the whole account, not just the name
If you want to commit, a few small changes make a seasonal theme feel complete. Change the profile photo to a filter or costume shot. Swap the highlight covers for pumpkin or bat icons. Post a pinned reel with the same look. Update your bio with a date range so followers know it's temporary: "spooky until 1 Nov". A name alone looks like a whim; a coordinated profile looks like a plan.
Group and server names
For a Discord server or a group chat, a seasonal rename is easy and popular. Use a prefix instead of replacing the name, such as 🎃 Server Name, so members still recognise it. In games, ask your squad to switch tags together for a night so the whole lobby looks themed. Where a rename costs a card, a tag change is a cheaper alternative, since many games let you edit your clan tag for free or cheaply.
Ideas for pets and kids' accounts
If you manage a shared family or pet account, a seasonal name is easy and fun. A dog's profile can be "Count Barkula", a cat's "Sir Hisses-a-lot", a family account "The Spooky Smiths". These work because the humour is gentle and clearly not serious, and they usually come with costume photos that make the whole thing land. Keep children's names out of public Halloween content; a family nickname does the job without revealing anything personal.
Timing
Start the theme in the last week of October rather than on the first of the month. A whole month of Halloween fatigues followers, whereas a week feels like an event. Switch back on the first or second of November, as the trend fades quickly. If your account has an international audience, remember that Halloween is not celebrated everywhere, so keep the theme light and clearly seasonal.
A quick build
- Start with your plain name.
- Pick one font: fraktur, monospace or small caps.
- Add one or two symbols.
- Test on the generator.
- Save the original in a note.
Done, with two minutes to spare before the party.
